Indy 500

I live next to the Indy 500 race track... or at least it seems that way from 7AM to 10PM. Everyday I find myself sitting by the window just listening to the awe-inspiring amount of cars, SUVs and Semis that pass by. Is there really a need for all this? Where are all these people going? There never seems to even be a 30 minute window of silence. Shouldn't they be at work? At school? At home? Just find somewhere to park your damn car and stay there!

And if I have to sit here and watch/listen to all this... the least I expect is a few more accidents. In the 7 months I've been here there has only been one accident. It really livened the place up. For about two hours (after all the emergency people turned off their sirens) it was quiet(er). Traffic was brought down to one lane in each direction and everybody wanted to see so they drove at a pleasant 10 mph. Gone were the days of motorcycles whizzing past at 60 mph. Of gear-heads in their raised trucks rumbling through making more noise than the semis they passed. Of tricked out hondas and acuras with holes in their mufflers racing each other in second gear to see how much they can over rev their engine. But then the debris was swept up and the cones removed... and hear I sit with nothing but the bitter music of pumping basses, lumbering semis, and speedy soccer moms in SUVs.
