Instead of studying for my Stat midterm tomorrow... i ventured to CNN and was yet again astounded.
The lesser of my problems was basketball player Yao suing Coke for a yen (its a symbolic gesture). I guess when you are a multi-millionaire you can sue people for 12 cents.
The greater of my problems stem from a developing plan to use webcams to monitor suspicious activity. That's right, a company called USHomeGuard wants to monitor power plants, chemical facilities and airports with the help of strategically placed webcams and zealous internet users. You can read the whole story on CNN.com. There are failsafes and all that jazz... though no one really seems to be buying into it.
Personally I think its really funny. But hey, if i'm going to get paid 10 bucks an hour to look at static images of a power plant i'll support anything.
Oh, and if you go to UsHomeGuard to get more info, you won't find much. You have to sign up to get more info. The learn more and join us page are actually one and the same. But you can count on me to keep you posted.
We'll catch those bastards... haha
I couldn't resist posting something about this... at least until polythink is finally up.
I was reading up on our friends at the DHS (Dept. of Homeland Security) and their new color-coordinated warning system. Incidentally its the same colors that the Pentagon uses for DEFCON, but i suppose there are only so many prime colors.
While i was looking at the colors I noticed something: we have Severe Risk (Red), High Risk (Orange), Elevated Risk (Yellow), Guarded/General Risk (Blue), and Low Risk (Green). Does this mean that we will never have a no risk situation? Will America be forever looking over its shoulder and trying to guess who is going to attack us next? And now each government agency has specific requirements that they have to carry out for each condition. Mmm. Sounds to me like this is going to cost a bundle.
If you have a chance, swing by the DHS page and go check it out. Also, on their FAQ page, let me know if you notice anything unusual... anyone hiring??
